ALVAMIRACLE Lotion
This is an extract from the Veteran Horse Society Newsletter, Summer 2005, about a horse in bad condition, they called Anthony.
Sadly, we are unable to give you an estimated age as his mouth is too swollen by sarcoids to feel or see inside his mouth. Anthony is a beautiful and stunning part TB on his off side, but turn him round he resembles something you can only imagine in your worst nightmare, he is probably, in my opinion, one of our worst cases yet, Pictured here the day we collected him he stands by a small stream, who knows what he is thinking? He has remained in this condition for five years until a friend of the owner asked if we could help and within 24 hours, we brought him into the centre. From what we can gather this condition was all brought on by an injury to his eye, something we are now making enquiries about. Now completely blind in his near eye he manages so well, with so many ailments. Working with this very precious horse is an honour, his manners are impeccable and his patience is incredible, as we have to treat his sarcoids daily and bath him at least twice a week. We really know little of his past, but we think he may once have been a successful show jumper or eventer. His sarcoids are now cleaning well and not only does he have to cope with this, but arrived extremely underweight. With rug sores and very badly split hooves the up hill battle started to try and &lsquo put him right ’ . Worming, trimming of feet and feeding slowly progressed and now with a full summer coat he is starting to feel good about life. He stayed out for the first time in June, as it was a beautifully warm evening and really was not happy coming from the paddock.
After his tea and treatment he was taken back to his evening paddock. Although he does keep his distance from other equine company, this maybe due to his blindness and the other bonding pairs, which may make him feel isolated. We hope in time he will bond with another thoroughbred, many members may remember &ndash Mattie. His feed now has been built up from a low protein feed to 16+, sugar beet and Build-up and his weight is really gaining. His sarcoids are reducing and we hope in the next edition to have some really beautiful pictures of him over the summer months. We would like to thank Alvahorse for producing a spray on lotion for his sarcoids and for getting this to us within 12 hours and to Science with Nature for the extra amount of Equivita this month, and also to Dodson and Horrell for sponsoring his feed. Never before have we shown a ‘ before ’ only photograph, but feel the urgency for you the Members to know where your donations go. Not expensive cars, administration or holidays, but directly to those horses that really need us. Despite little funding and a shortage of staff, we still make room for a little horse, so desperate to be helped.
Julia Ashton (Founder)About THE VETERAN HORSE SOCIETY
After years of calling and writing to owners and companies, an analysis was made and talks were started to setting up a Society that dealt with NOTHING other than horses and ponies over 15 years. In September 2000, a Business Plan was put in place and a launch date was set for November 2000. It was welcomed with open arms and so began THE VETERAN HORSE SOCIETY. Now a registered non-profit making organisation, the VHS has the backing of many well known organisations such as Dodson & Horrell, Horseware Ireland and Horse Senses to name a few.Source:- ALVAHORSE (manufacturer of ALVAMIRACLE)
